CLEVELAND, Ohio - While MGM Northfield Park remains Ohio’s busiest racino or casino, revenue slipped in September for the fifth time in the six months since rebranding from the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park, and the two JACK Entertainment properties in the Cleveland-area posted gains.
September reports released Monday by the Ohio Lottery Commission showed slots revenue at Northfield Park dipped 11.4% to $19.4 million, from $21.9 million in September 2018 under the Hard Rock name. Last month marked the lowest revenue total at Northfield Park since January 2018.
Meanwhile, September revenue was up 14.1% to $11.7 million at nearby JACK Thistledown Racino in North Randall, and up 3.8% to $17.2 million at JACK Cleveland Casino, reports from the lottery and Ohio Casino Control commissions showed.
Revenue is the money kept by the racinos and casinos after paying out winnings. About a third of that is then forwarded to the state in taxes or fees. Only the casinos are permitted to offer table games.
The Northfield Park facility in northern Summit County was purchased for $1 billion by MGM Growth Properties on July 6, 2018, and rebranded as MGM Northfield Park in April.
Slots revenue at MGM Northfield Park totaled $124.2 million in the first six months under the MGM name, down 5.1% from $130.8 million during April through September last year as the Hard Rock.
During the same six-month period:
- JACK Cleveland Casino revenue was up 5.7% to $104.9 million.
- JACK Thistledown Racino revenue was up 12.6% to $73.1 million.
Statewide in September, revenue at the seven racinos and four casinos totaled $155.1 million, up 1.9% from $152.2 million during September a year earlier.
Racino revenue climbed 1.2% to $86.7 million. Casino revenue was up 2.8% to $68.4 million.
